This week-long, corset-making class is designed for those who have never made a corset before.
In this course students will learn and expand on the following skills:
Measure the body for a corset and discover “ease” as related to fitting.
Draft a basic 4 panel corset (4 panels per body side). The corset pattern will not go over the bust – it will be a waist -cincher style corset.
Fit a corset mock-up.
Identify materials used in corset construction: busks, bones, coutil, grommets, lacing and learn how to choose and use these products.
Discover various construction techniques for busk application: boning, cutting and finishing, bone casings – interior, exterior and invisible - grommet placement and setting, binding edges and adding trim.
All tools are supplied for use in the class; however, students who are used to working with their own sewing machines may bring them for ease of use. All necessary materials are provided; but you may want to bring fashion fabric/trim/lacing and matching thread to personalize your corset – note there will be time to purchase these materials after the class starts.
The low student-to-teacher ratio in each course ensures instruction is geared to the participant's skill level and experience. Please indicate your related experience when you register.
The course fee covers the cost of basic materials required during the course. In this course, participants work on personal projects. Depending on the complexity of those projects, additional costs for materials may be incurred and are the responsibility of the student.
