Refashion Fashion Weekend
ARTIST INSTRUCTOR: VICTORIA BRUER
Dates: Saturday April 6 & Sunday April 7 , 2019
Just in time for Stratford Trashion Week, take this course to create a thrift store master fashion piece. Victoria Bruer of Farthingales Studios will guide you through the best way to modify and embellish your fashion to create something new out of something used. Using thrift store finds or clothing from your closet make something totally unique to you. This course will help you see past the current cut and fit of a garment to help reinvent it into something fantastic! You will need to bring several pieces with you (that you’re willing to cut and sew) and you’ll be able to mix them with bits we’ll have available for your use.
In this course, students will learn and develop the following skills:
Learn to think outside the box!
Successfully create designs that will fit you from your used garments.
Experiment with different techniques to modify the colour, or remove colour from a garment.
Explore how to apply heat set crystals.
Discover some basic hand and machine embroidery stitches.
Learn a variety of ways to finish the edge of a garment.
Experiment with ways to combine and sew new garments from used.
Apply trim, details and embellishments to finished garments.
All tools for this class are supplied for use during the class.
Some supplies will be provided: discharge paste, fabric markers, heat set crystals, embroidery thread, bits of trim, fabric scraps, a plethora of buttons and odds and ends.
Please bring: Ideas! Also, please bring several pieces of clothing. Cotton based or natural fabrics work best (polyester presents many challenges) but be sure to include both tops and bottoms. It will also be more fun (and easier) if the item already fits you! However, that’s not necessary. Please also bring any bits you might have around that you’d like to use…trim, an old print skirt or shirt, faux fur, jewelry bits – whatever inspires.
The low student-to-teacher ratio in each course ensures instruction is geared to the participant's skill level and experience. Please indicate your related experience when you register.
Day and time: Saturday & Sunday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
